How to Transfer Chatbots (Export & Import)

DMLY allows you to transfer chatbots (automation rules) between workspaces, accounts, or client environments using the Export and Import feature.

This is ideal for:

• Moving bots from staging to production

• Duplicating bots across clients

• Backing up automations

• Selling or sharing chatbot templates

• Migrating to a new workspace

Below is the complete step-by-step process.

Step 1: Export the Chatbot

Go to Automations

Navigate to:

Automations → All Rules

You will see a list of your automation rules (bots).

Select the Bot(s)

• Use the checkbox on the left side of the rule(s).

• You can select:

  • A single chatbot

  • Multiple chatbots

  • Entire groups/folders

At the bottom, you’ll see:

“X Automation Rule(s) selected”

Click Actions → Export Selected Rules

1. Click the Actions dropdown.

2. Choose:
   Export Selected Rules

A modal will appear showing:

“Automation rules export – processing”

Wait for Processing

Exports are processed in the background.

You will receive a notification when ready.

Download the Export File

Go to:

Settings → Data Exports → Other Exports

You will see:

• Export Type: AUTOMATION-RULE

• Item count

• Requested by

• Requested date

• Download button

Click the Download icon.

What You Receive

You will download a:

ZIP file

Inside the ZIP file:

rules-export.json

This JSON file contains:

• Triggers

• Conditions

• Actions

• AI prompts

• Message templates

• Webhooks

• Tags

• Rule structure

It does NOT include:

• API tokens

• WhatsApp credentials

• Secret keys

Step 2: Import the Chatbot

Now switch to the destination workspace or account.

Go to Automations

Navigate to:

Automations

Click “Import Rules”

At the top right of the page, click:

Import Rules

Upload the File

You can upload:

• The ZIP file directly
  OR

• The extracted rules-export.json file

DMLY will process and recreate the automation rules.

After Import – Important Steps

Once imported:

1. Review the rule settings.

2. Confirm triggers are correct.

3. Ensure required channels are connected:

   • WhatsApp

   • Instagram

   • Messenger

   • Telegram

4. Re-check Webhooks if used.

5. Test with a real message.

6. Publish the rule (toggle ON).

Imported bots are usually inactive by default — you must enable them.

How to Transfer Between Workspaces

Example: Moving a Bot to Another Client

1. Export from Workspace A.

2. Download the file.

3. Switch to Workspace B.

4. Import the file.

5. Connect integrations.

6. Publish the bot.

That’s it — the chatbot is now transferred.
