Tags and Segmentation are powerful tools in DMLY that help you organize contacts, personalize communication, and send highly targeted broadcasts. When used correctly, they improve engagement, increase conversions, and keep your campaigns clean and relevant.
What Are Tags?Tags are labels you assign to contacts to categorize them based on behavior, interest, status, or activity.
Think of tags as flexible identifiers that help you group contacts dynamically.
New Lead

Follow Up 1

Tags can be applied:
Manually from the contact profile
During CSV import
Automatically via automations
From the Unified Inbox
Based on user actions (e.g., replying “STOP”)
What Is Segmentation?Segmentation allows you to create filtered contact groups based on:
Tags
Stage
Workspace
Last Activity
Contact Attributes
Inclusion or Exclusion rules
Segments are dynamic, meaning they update automatically when a contact’s data changes.
How Tags and Segments Work TogetherTags are the building blocks.
Segments are the filtered groups created using those tags.
Example:
If you tag contacts with:
Webinar 2026
VIP
You can create a segment:
Contacts with tag "Webinar 2026" AND tag "VIP"
Only those contacts will be included in broadcasts.
Creating a Segment in DMLYGo to Segments
Click Add Segment
Enter a Segment Name
Select a Workspace (Important: Always select a workspace to avoid including contacts from all workspaces)
Apply filters:
Include Tags
Exclude Tags
Select Stage
Set Last Activity (Days)
Click Save
Your segment will update automatically as contacts meet or no longer meet the criteria.
Excluding Contacts with TagsExclusion is critical for compliance and clean marketing.
Example:
Exclude tag: Unsubscribe
This ensures contacts who opted out are never included in marketing broadcasts.
